IPL 2025: MS Dhoni sets new wicketkeeping benchmark in CSK vs PBKS clash

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has achieved a rare milestone. He became the first wicketkeeper in the tournament's history to take 150 catches. Dhoni reached this feat during the match held yesterday against Punjab Kings by catching Nehal Wadhera.

In the 8th over of Punjab Kings’ innings, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a delivery that Wadhera attempted to hit for a big shot. However, the ball took a heavy edge off the bat and Dhoni took an easy catch. Following Dhoni, former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Dinesh Karthik occupies the second spot on the list with 137 catches.

In the same match held on Tuesday, Punjab’s young opener Priyamsh Arya delivered a sensational performance. He completed his century in just 39 balls, marking his maiden IPL century. He eventually scored 103 runs off 42 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes, before getting out.

Priyamsh’s century is now recorded as the fifth-fastest in IPL history. The fastest IPL century remains with West Indies star Chris Gayle, who achieved the feat in just 30 balls in 2013.

Driven by Priyamsh’s explosive innings, Punjab Kings posted a commanding total of 219 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, CSK was restricted to 201 runs while chasing a target of 220. As a result, Punjab secured victory by a margin of 18 runs. This marks the third win for Punjab Kings in the current season, while Chennai suffered their fourth loss.
