Pregnant Woman Critically Injured After Husband’s Brick Attack in Hyderabad

A horrific incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Gachibowli Police Station in Hyderabad, where a husband attacked his pregnant wife with a cement brick in the middle of the road, leaving her critically injured and hospitalized in a life-threatening condition.

According to details provided by the police, Mohammad Basrath, aged 32, a resident of Aditya Nagar in Hafeezpet, traveled to the Ajmer Dargah in early 2023. During a bus journey, he became acquainted with Shabana Parveen, aged 22, a native of Bengal. Their acquaintance soon developed into a romantic relationship. In October last year, the couple got married in Kolkata.

Following the marriage, Mohammad Basrath brought Shabana Parveen to live with him in Hafeezpet. However, due to family disputes, she eventually began living separately under stress. Recently, after becoming pregnant, Shabana Parveen began experiencing frequent vomiting. On March 29, Mohammad Basrath admitted her to a private hospital. After her condition improved slightly, she was discharged at around 10:00 p.m. on April 1.

While returning home, an argument broke out between the two. During the altercation, Mohammad Basrath allegedly beat his wife, causing her to fall to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, he picked up nearby cement bricks and repeatedly struck her on the head with extreme brutality, rendering her unconscious.

Believing that Shabana Parveen had died, Mohammad Basrath fled the scene. The police arrived and shifted her to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). According to the police, she sustained severe head injuries and has slipped into a coma. Her health condition remains critical.

Police arrested Mohammad Basrath on April 3 and remanded him to judicial custody.
