India is Being Turned into 'Hindia': Kamal Haasan Criticizes Central Government
Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam party leader Kamal Haasan has alleged that the NDA-led central government is attempting to turn India into "Hindia" by imposing Hindi across states to secure electoral advantages. His remarks come amid an ongoing political dispute between the central government and Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK over constituency delimitation and the three-language policy.

Speaking at a meeting of Tamil political parties, Kamal Haasan criticized the central government, claiming, “While we think about India, they (BJP) dream about Hindia.” He accused the government of trying to ensure that all states speak Hindi, thereby securing a majority in elections.

The meeting, attended by various Tamil political parties, resulted in a resolution urging the central government to carry out the constituency delimitation process based on the 1971 census. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to adhere to this approach.

During his speech, Kamal Haasan referenced a statement made by Stalin in 2019. At that time, Union Minister Amit Shah had posted on social media, stating that Hindi represents India internationally. Stalin had strongly countered the claim, asserting, “This is India, not Hindia.” Kamal Haasan reiterated this stance, emphasizing concerns over linguistic imposition and centralization of power.
