Pakistan Ends WTC Campaign in Worst Fashion

Pakistan's campaign in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) has concluded in a dismal manner. In the second Test against the West Indies in Multan, Pakistan suffered a defeat by 120 runs. This victory marked a historic moment for the West Indies, as they secured a win on Pakistani soil after 34 years. With this result, the two-match Test series ended in a 1-1 draw. The Caribbean team had last triumphed in Pakistan in November 1990 during a Test match in Faisalabad. Subsequent tours in 1997 and 2006 saw the West Indies unable to secure victories in Pakistan.

This loss has pushed Pakistan to the bottom of the World Test Championship points table. During the 2023–25 cycle, Pakistan played 14 Tests but managed to win only 5 while losing 9. With a points percentage of just 27.89, this is Pakistan's worst-ever performance in a WTC cycle.

In the inaugural WTC edition, Pakistan won 3 out of 6 matches, achieving a points percentage of 43.3. In the following cycle (2021–23), they secured only 4 wins and ended with a points percentage of 38.1, placing them seventh. However, in the current cycle, they have dropped to the bottom of the standings. At present, South Africa leads the WTC table with a points percentage of 69.44, followed by Australia (63.73) and India (50) in the second and third spots, respectively.
