BRS Betrayed Telangana in Krishna Water Deal, Alleges Uttam Kumar Reddy
Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for allegedly compromising the state's interests by agreeing to allocate 299 TMC of Krishna River water to Telangana and 512 TMC to Andhra Pradesh, out of the 811 TMC assigned to the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. He alleged that this agreement reflected a grave injustice to Telangana and accused the BRS of mortgaging the state's rights.

Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted that the BRS's actions over its decade-long tenure amounted to a betrayal of Telangana. He claimed that the party had entered into a secretive agreement during its rule, causing irreparable harm to the state's water share. According to Uttam Kumar Reddy, the former BRS government signed off on temporary allocations every year without taking any significant steps to secure Telangana's rightful 70% share in the Krishna waters—a demand consistently raised during Congress's administration.

Refuting any credit to the BRS in the decisions by the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that it was the Congress government that had actively pushed for Telangana's water share through legal and administrative channels.

He further accused the former BRS government of remaining passive while Andhra Pradesh allegedly diverted Krishna waters unchecked during its administration. He cited the increased capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator by an additional 44,000 cusecs and the Rayalaseema lift irrigation projects as examples of Andhra Pradesh's unilateral decisions. He claimed that the BRS did not object or act against these expansions, effectively neglecting Telangana's interests.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also emphasized that if the Congress were to return to power, it would push for a swift resolution on water allocations through the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal and intensify pressure on the central government for fair distribution of Krishna waters.
