Viral Video: Youth Provokes Elephant, IFS Officer Warns
Despite being initially chased off, the youth did not stop his antics. He once again attempted to provoke the animal, but the elephant chose to ignore him and continued moving with its herd.
Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Parveen Kaswan shared the video on his social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), condemning the youth's actions. He stressed the risks associated with provoking wild animals, noting that such behavior could lead to serious consequences.
“That’s a young elephant. Though it didn’t run fast, the youth deliberately ran ahead of it, agitating the animal. An irritated elephant will not remain passive. Even after a few days, if it spots humans, it may react aggressively and chase them, potentially causing accidents. Please do not provoke wild animals for entertainment,” Parveen Kaswan wrote in his post.
Public Outrage
Within a few hours, the video garnered over 400,000 views, with numerous social media users expressing anger over the youth’s reckless behavior. Many pointed out that the incident could have turned fatal if the elephant had attacked someone. Calls to identify and punish the youth have grown, with users urging authorities to ensure such actions are discouraged in the future.
