Proposed GPS to govt staff after assessing state’s financial position: Sajjala

Amaravati, May 24: The Andhra Pradesh government conducted the Joint Staff Council meeting in which representatives of employees’ unions and group of ministers participated here on Tuesday. But the meeting ended without any conclusion. The state government made it clear to leaders of employees’ unions that restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS) is not possible because of legal issues. Ministers sought cooperation of employees for implementing the Gratuity Pension Scheme (GPS) proposed by them in the place of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
 
Talking to reporters, AP government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that the state government proposed GPS which can provide assured monthly income for employees after retirement. “GPS is far better than CPS,” he mentioned and added that employees’ unions want only OPS.
 
“We are ready to make changes within GPS but leaders of employees’ unions are saying that they can accept changes only in OPS,” he explained. To a question, Sajjala stated that the government is ready to talk with other unions, who are opposing CPS.
