11 people die in fire accident in Thanjavur

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu: As many as 11 persons including two children were burnt alive in a fire accident during ratha yatra on past Tuesday midnight at Thanjavur of Tamil Nadu. According to sources, the death toll is likely to increase.

On the occasion of Chitrai festival, people took out chariot procession from Tuesday midnight to the early hours of Wednesday in Kalimedi village. At about 3 am on Wednesday, high voltage current wire touched the chariot at Puthaluru road. Fire broke out due to short circuit killing 10 persons on the spot. More than 10 were injured.

The injured were shifted to Thanjavur government hospital. One of the injured died while undergoing treatment and condition of four of them was stated to be critical.
