Vizag likely to get 3,960 mw thermal power plant

Visakhapatnam, Nov 14: A new power plant is expected to serve the power needs of Andhra Pradesh soon. Visakhapatnam district is likely to soon get a 3,960 MW coal fired power project. According to officials, the Hyderabad-based M/s Yeswanth Industrial Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd is said to have submitted a project proposal to Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to develop the power project. The Expert Appraisal Committee (Thermal Power) has already considered the proposal and had asked the project promoters to get the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) done. The project had also Terms of Reference in this regard. The coal-fired power plant is expected to come up in three phases - 2x660 MW in each phase - at DK Puram, Kagitha and Vempadu and Nellipudi villages in Nakkapalli mandal spread across an area of 3,248 acres. Once completed, the proposed plant needs coal at least 13.59 MT per annum, which the promoters wish to import from Indonesia.
