'Delimitation' NOT possible till 2026 : Union Home Ministry

Disappointing the ruling parties of both Telugu states, once again GOI said that there would be no delimitation of assembly constituencies till 2026. In a written reply to the question raised by TS MPs Union Home ministry told that a Constitutional Amendment is required to facilitate the delimitation. "On the requests and representations from the two Telugu states AG suggested that Article 170 section 26 of the Constitution need to be amended for delimitation" Ministry told. Section 26(1) of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 provides necessary room for the enhancement of Assembly constituencies of AP and Telangana from 175 and 119 to 225 and 153 respectively.
