Rajnikant superstar of South, Salman Sultan of Indian cinema

Who is the superstar in the country? Is it Rajnikant of Kollywood or any of the three Khans of Bollywood? In terms of years of activity, number of films made, hits per year, Box Office, longest successful streak, Rajnikant beats them all, but he comes a cropper at the Box Office criterion. The reasons are not far to seek. Rajnikant caters to the Tamils, and indirectly the South. But the Khans have wider spread over the North and beyond in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Thus Salman Khan alone betters Rajnikant in two of the criteria, as for the box office and the longest successful streak. However, since Rajnikant comes a cropper at the box office, with not only Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan beating him at it, we can safely assume that Salman Khan is the Sultan of the Indian cinema. Taking it all in all, Rajnikant, who started his career with `Apoorva Ragangal' in 1975, has had a scintillating career filled with charisma, miracles and magic. Shivajirao Gaikwad (Rajnikant) has come a long way from being a bus conductor in Bangalore to become the superstar of the South, with his latest offering `Kabali.'
