Messaging apps a danger to country's security, RTI activist

A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India will hear a public interest petittion filed by an RTI activist, deamanding a ban on messaging apps such as Whatsapp on the ground that these apps were very handy to terrorists, extremists and criminals. The encrypted messages on the apps are difficult to decipher by security agencies. Even supercomputers cannot decipher these encrypted messages. Deciphering a single encrypted message would take hundreds of years, the RTI activist added. The activist, Sudhir Yadav, of Haryana, said the messaging apps such as Whatsapp, Viber, Telgram, Hike and Signal were thus a threat to the country. Investigating agencies have in fact found it difficult to decipher the messages even if they intercept them. The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur would hear the petition on June 27.
