Non-IIT, non-IIM pay packets soar over Rs 1.1 crore

Campus placements in non-IIM and non-IIT institutions have also soared to more than Rs 1 crore offers. A computer science graduate from Jadavpur University in West Bengal secured Rs 1.1 crore job offer from Google. The company offered him placement in Google's Singapore office. Jadavpur University placement officer Samita Bhattacharya commented that they did not believe such a big offer to their graduates. Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das said this was the biggest placement offer for the university. Last year the offer was Rs 3 lakhs per annum average at the campus placements. This year it had trebled to Rs 10 lakhs. However, Asif Ahmed, the computer science graduate, got ten times the running placement offer of Rs 1.1 crore. This had happened because of the Jadavpur figuring among top 100 institutions among BRIC countries. Asif said he had been asked many questions. But all the questions were within the subject. The interview went off well because it was on the expected lines. `So when they told me the salary on offer for me was Rs 1.1 crore, I was overwhelmed.' Google gave him the confirmation letter. He was told to join by September. He revealed that Amazon offered him Rs 27 lakhs package. Another Jadavpur student Vikhayat Khosla was offered Rs 30 lakh package by Microsoft at its Hyderabad office.
