Despite jetlag, KTR looks into civic issue in City
At last someone is looking into the pedestrian woes of the people in Hyderabad. IT Minister K. Taraka Ramarao, who landed in Hyderabad overnight after completing his successful US tour to bring industry to the State, moved in the streets of Yousufguda, Punjagutta, Srinagar Colony and other places on Monday to see the horrible condition of the roads dug up on the pretext of laying underground cable work. What KTR had seen on the roads is what had been reported in the press that for kilometres together the roads have been dug up to a depth of 3 to 6 ft. The lack of coordiantion between the cable-laying and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation is stated to be the reason for the horrible condition of the roads. KTR was angry about the road condition and he wanted to give a talking-to to the cable-laying authorities, none of whom was available. He wanted to know who would be responsible if schoolchidren were to fall into the open pits. These are generally filled with drain and rain water. He wanted the pits to be filled before the evening. KTR visited the areas along with Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Deputy Mayor Fasiuddin. While the roads have been dug up, above the roads the Metro work remains incomplete for years. KTR should take up the civic issue with all the authorities concerned expeditiously. At many stretches such as at Begumpet and Ameerpet, there is no scope for pedestrian movement at all. This aspect also needs to be looked into.
