How green is my Telangana, asks KCR & gives slogan
Telangana Chief Minsiter K. Chandrasekhar Rao gave a slogan on Thursday for greening the State: `Vaanalu Vapas Raavale, Kothulu Vapas Povale.' While this is poised to be a popular slogan, there is twist in the tail. `Let the rains return, and monkeys home return.' Who are the monkeys? He explained before voicing the slogan. Once upon a time, Telangana was thick with woods. During the Andhras' regime in the combined State, the forest cover in Telangana had been depleted. The forest cover in Telangana was 33%. Now the State had only 23% forest cover. He called upon the people to restore the cover and gave them the slogan. People, irrespective of age, should take part in the afforestation programme. In every district, 4 million saplings should be planted, which would mean 40 million saplings for the entire State in a year. In Hyderabad, 100 million saplings should be planted.
