IIT, NIT undergraduate tuition fees raised
The annual fees for undergraduate courses in the Indian Institutes of Technology has been increased from Rs 90,000 to Rs 200,000 from the next academic session.
The decision was taken by Human Resources Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday. She clarified that students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and differently abled students would get a full fee waiver at all IITs.
Students of the general category could opt for zero per cent loans if they required to cover study costs.
The IITs have been trying to increase the fees for some time. The IIT Council meeting held in October last had taken up the issue, but it could not arrive at a decision.
Students from the NITs would also be paying increased fees of Rs 125,000 from this academic year, as it was approved last year.
