Telugu States pay more IT revenue, get little Central returns

The Telugu States are only after Tamil Nadu in the payment of Income-tax in the country, IT Chief Commissioner Suresh Babu told newsmen on Thursday. The Telugu States paid Rs 36,663 crore as IT, which was 15.4% more than last year's payment. The first-time IT payers in the States numbered 483,398. As for audited accounts, the Chief Commissioner clarified that those having an annual income of over Rs 2 crore could file their IT through e-filing. There were 36 default cases in the Telugu States, and four of them have been sent to jail. Forget about Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, the Centre does not transfer the necessary funds to the States concerned, although it gets more revenues from the Telugu States.
