Rohith Vemula's mother continues to stalk HCU

Rohith Vemula's mother, Radhika, collapsed at the gate of Hyderabad Central University campus on Saturday morning when her bid to enter the university was stopped by the security staff. She was accompanied by her other son. Research scholar Rohith had committed suicide in the campus following university action against him for trying to champion the convicted traitor Yakub Memon, of Bombay blasts infamy. Ever since Rohith's mother had been agitating in and out of the HCU campus along with students and political leaders. She had been paid comensation for the suicide by her son. In New Delhi, she had demanded and secured a job for her other son from the Delhi government. Radhika, along with some HCU students, demanded resignation by Vice-Chancellor Apparao, holding him responsible for the suicide by her son. The suicide had also been controversial, as the Central authorities had alleged that it was on account of the students not allowing medical help to reach the research scholar in time and that he was made to die. More than the students, Rohith's mother wants to attend the university. As her entry was blocked by the security today, she fell unconscious at the university gate. This had caused some tension. The fact is that the HCU is coming out tops academically. But the continuing agitation is bound to have its effect on the rankings. In contrast, the Jawaharlal Nehru University, which is a Central University like the HCU, figures nowhere in the rankings even among Indian universities. It appears there is a concerted move to bring down the HCU status.
