Upper House adjourned over AP Special Status

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Tuesday, just before the end of Zero Hour, following an uproar by Congress members, demanding Speical Status for Andhra Pradesh. Even as CM Ramesh, TDP MP, was repeatedly dubbing the Congress demand as `drama', Finance Minister Arun Jaitley intervened to say, `The Central government is going to honour every commitment made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.' Jaitley said the foundation-stone for Capital Amaravati was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as also for several institutions. To this, Congress Elder KVP RamaChandra Rao had earlier said, 'Andhra Pradesh had got mud from the Central government. Nothing else.' He was referring to the pot of sand brought in from Delhi by the Prime Minister for the foundation-stone ceremony at Amaravati. It was KVP comment that was the trigger for the events in the Congress, both in AP and at the Centre. The PCC had organised `Delhi chalo' which was continuing till Tuesday.
