Telugu writer returns Sahitya Akademi Award
Hyderabad, Oct 16: Telugu writer and actor M Bhoopal Reddy has returned his Sahitya Akademi award yesterday.
Bhoopal Reddy is the first writer from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to return the award to protest 'growing intolerance in the country.
Another recipient of the award, Katyayani Vidmahe would return her award next week.
Bhoopal Reddy has won the award for his book for children 'Uggupalu' in 2011. He told the media men that he has decided to return his 'Ugadi Puraskaram' award given by Telangana government in protest against the indifference attitude of the state government to the growing number of farmers's suicides.
Reddy was born in a poor agriculture family that owned 2 acres agriculture land and his father was constable in Excise department. He strongly condemned encounter killings.
