Bapatla Agri College closed indefinitely

Bapatla (Guntur), Oct 02: The College of Agriculture, Bapatla, has been closed for an indefinite period following stand-off between students and the college management. The hostel students have also been asked to vacate the premises. The institution is a constituent college of Acharya NG Ranga Agriculture University. The college was established in 1945. The college students were staging protests for the past few days demanding that authorities make public the inquiry report on the suicide of a PG student. Maddukuri Surya Rao, a student of M Sc (Genetics & Plant Breeding) was found dead in the college hostel. The student's father has alleged that a professor had humiliated his son. The students strongly opposed the decision to close down the college and hostel and warned that they would launch an indefinite strike. BPT 5204 popularly know as Samba Masuri/Sona Masuri/ Kurnool Sona, a superfine paddy variety, was developed at the rice research state located on the college premises in 1985. Despite the technological advancements, no other institution either private or government has so far not produced a paddy variety which beats BPT 5204 in quality and taste.
