Gang of robbers attack, injure female IPS officer on Simhapuri Express

Hyderabad, Sept 12: A gang of robbers today attacked a IPS officer SM Ratna in Nellore district, while she was travelling on Simhapuri Express from Hyderabad to Chennai. Early reports said, the robbers boarded the Simhapuri Express near Nellore. While they were trying to rob SM Ratna, she resisted. Angered by this, the robbers smashed her head against the window and took away 32 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 2,000 in cash from her. On being informed by co-passengers, railway police immediately rushed a badly injured Ratna to the Gudur government hospital. Officials are trying to take the Hyderabad-based IPS officer to Apollo Hospital in Nellore for better treatment. The lady officer was originally to travel by Charminar Express from Hyderabad to Chennai. However, she missed the train. She was then accommodated in a bogie specially allocated for physically challenged persons in Simhapuri Express.
