Telangana: ACB catches Town Planning Officer taking Rs 4 lakh bribe
Hyderabad, Oct 5 : Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday caught a Town Planning Officer red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh.

Tulasiram Sunitha, Town Planning Supervisor at the office of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Golconda Zone, was caught by ACB officials after allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakh and accepting part payment of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant for doing an official favour.

According to the ACB, the accused officer demanded and accepted the bribe from the complainant to ignore the speaking orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner, GHMC, to allow the complainant to proceed with building construction, refrain from causing further harassment and extend cooperation in future.

The anti-graft agency said in a release that the tainted bribe amount of Rs 4 lakh was recovered from the possession of the accused officer.

In addition to the bribe amount, Rs 2.50 lakh in unaccounted cash was also found in the possession of the accused officer. The amount was recovered and seized.

The ACB stated that the accused officer had performed her duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage.

The accused officer is being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nampally, for judicial remand.

The case is under investigation, the release added.

In another case, the ACB trapped Ranga Reddy District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Swarna Kumari, Health Inspector M. Srinivas and a private driver, Madduri Krishnaiah, in a bribery case.

According to the ACB, acting on the instructions of the DM&HO and the Health Inspector, the driver demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant as a reward for returning the keys of the complainant’s seized physiotherapy centre.

The amount was also allegedly sought as an undue advantage for not taking any further action against the centre for operating without a DM&HO licence and for issuing a new DM&HO licence for the physiotherapy centre.

ACB officials recovered the bribe amount from the possession of the driver.

All three accused are being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nampally, for judicial remand.
