Chennai, August 15, 2026: Actor Trisha Krishnan drew attention at Tamil Nadu’s Independence Day celebrations at Fort St. George in Chennai on Saturday, taking a front-row seat alongside Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s parents as Vijay hoisted the national flag for the first time as Chief Minister.
Trisha attended the ceremony with her mother, Uma Krishnan. Multiple reports and videos from the venue showed Trisha seated prominently beside Vijay’s parents, S.A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar.
Trisha Krishnan wore a traditional golden-yellow saree and adorned her hair with jasmine flowers. Footage from the celebrations showed Trisha waiting in the front row and interacting with those seated around her.
One of the most widely shared moments came during the ceremonial parade. As Vijay passed the front row in an open vehicle while reviewing the parade, Trisha and those seated with her exchanged salutes with the Chief Minister. Tamil Indian Express reported that Vijay saluted after noticing Trisha and his parents, who responded with salutes. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Trisha was also seen waving to Vijay as he departed, with Vijay waving back.
The appearance marked Trisha Krishnan’s second prominent presence at a major official event involving Vijay since he became Chief Minister. Trisha had attended Vijay’s swearing-in at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 10, arriving with Uma Krishnan and sitting near Vijay’s family and other prominent guests.
At the May ceremony, Trisha was also seen greeting Vijay’s mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, before taking her seat in the front row. Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 10, 2026, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Saturday’s celebrations at Fort St. George also marked Vijay’s maiden Independence Day address as Chief Minister. Addressing the gathering, Vijay linked the fight against corruption with the meaning of freedom and said his administration was working towards honest and transparent governance.
“We are working towards establishing a truly honest and transparent administration. There should be no compromise when it comes to public life,” Vijay said. Vijay also stated that his government would cooperate with the Union government on administrative matters while continuing to differ with it ideologically.
C. Joseph Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, moved into full-time politics after a decades-long career in Tamil cinema. His 69th film, Jana Nayagan, has been presented as his final film.
Trisha and Vijay have a long professional association in Tamil cinema, including their more recent collaboration in Leo. Trisha Krishnan’s presence at both Vijay’s May swearing-in and Saturday’s Independence Day ceremony has consequently attracted substantial attention across news and social-media platforms.
