Two people died in a shootout during a failed robbery attempt at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, Chile. The incident happened when a gang of 10 heavily armed robbers attempted to steal Rs 260 crores in cash that was being transferred to an armored truck from a commercial flight from Miami in the US. The airport security guards engaged in a confrontation with the robbers, resulting in the death of an agent of the Chilean Civil Aviation Authority and one of the assailants. The remaining robbers fled the scene, leaving four burned vehicles on their escape route. A manhunt for the robbers is ongoing, but the money was not stolen, although the plane that carried the cash was hit by bullets.
