Aruna Miller has made history by becoming the first Indian-American politician to be sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, a state located next to the US capital. Aruna, who is 58 years old and a former delegate to the Maryland House, took office as the 10th Lieutenant Governor of the state on Wednesday. The Lieutenant Governor serves as the state's highest official after the Governor and assumes the role when the Governor is out of state or unable to perform their duties. During her inaugural speech, Aruna, who was born in Hyderabad, acknowledged her family who immigrated to the United States from India when she was seven years old.
