The Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday that more than 3.92 lakh Indians had renounced their nationality over the previous three years, with 1.70 lakh of them, the greatest number, acquiring American citizenship. According to information provided by the Ministry of External Affairs, people resigned their Indian citizenship for reasons that were personal to them, according to Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai. Among them, 1,70,000 have become citizens of the United States. The remainder stated that they had obtained citizenship in more than 120 nations. According to Nityanand Rai, 64,071 persons have become citizens of Canada, 58,391 in Australia, 35,435 in the UK, and 12,131 in Italy. According to sources, 1,44,017 and 85,256 Indians, respectively, renounced their citizenship in 2019 and 2020.
