Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took the oath of office as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, putting an end to the state's week-long political unrest. Devendra Fadnavis also took the oath to serve as the state's deputy chief minister alongside him. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari gave the pledge of allegiance to both leaders. Soon after Fadnavis claimed he would not be in the administration, BJP President JP Nadda said that Fadnavis would be a member of the new Maharashtra cabinet headed by Shinde. Significantly, Fadnavis caught everyone off guard when he declared Shinde as the new chief minister.
