New Delhi: former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh attended a significant Rajya Sabha session where the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was under discussion. Despite being 90 years old, Singh was observed sitting in a wheelchair during the session. The Congress party issued a three-line whip to ensure its MPs' presence in the Rajya Sabha. Home Minister Amit Shah presented the GNCT of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, for consideration and it was subsequently passed through a division with 131 MPs in favor and 102 against. Opposition members also raised a resolution disapproving the government's ordinance introduced in May. The bill grants the Central Government authority to establish rules regarding the affairs of the Government of the NCT of Delhi. Amidst these discussions, Amit Shah countered the Congress, asserting that the amendments were not being made to enforce an "Emergency" situation.
