The Supreme Court has expressed serious concerns about the worsening law and order situation in Manipur. The court raised alarm over delays in lodging FIRs (First Information Reports) and the lack of arrests in various cases. It criticized both the Manipur government and police for their handling of these matters. In response to the alarming situation, the Supreme Court has summoned the Director-General of Police (DGP) to appear before the court on August 4th. The court has demanded comprehensive information on a range of cases, including those involving attacks against women and children, murder, rape, arson, and property destruction. The court strongly asserted that there has been an absolute breakdown of law and order in Manipur, leading to the decision to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
