New Delhi: Raising concerns in Delhi, the water level of the Yamuna River surpassed the critical mark of 208 meters at approximately 7 am on Thursday. This comes after the river had already surpassed its previous highest recorded level of 207.49 meters back in 1978. As of 9 pm on the previous day, the river was flowing at 207.95 meters. The rising water levels have led to flooding in the Civil Lines area, particularly impacting the Ring Road. As a result, the section connecting Majnu ka Tila with Kashmiri Gate ISBT has been closed off. Notably, this affected region is situated only 500 meters away from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence and the Delhi Assembly. To ensure the safety of residents, authorities have evacuated a total of 16,564 people. Among them, approximately 14,534 individuals have sought shelter in tents arranged by the Delhi government and beneath flyovers, providing temporary relief from the deluge in low-lying areas, colonies, and markets.
