Rahul Gandhi, a former Member of Parliament, had arrived earlier in the day in Imphal for a scheduled two-day visit. Police authorities intervened and stalled the political procession, citing concerns about potential violence along the route. There were reports of tyres being set alight on the highway near Utlou village in Bishnupur district, along with a few incidents of stone-throwing aimed at the convoy. "After several hours of waiting, Rahul Gandhi made the decision to return to the capital city," the sources reported. He is now expected to take a helicopter to reach his event location. Speaking to the press, a police officer clarified the reasons behind their actions, "We feared a repeat of such disruptive incidents and, in a precautionary move, requested the convoy to halt at Bishnupur."
