Hyderabad In a major urban administrative reform, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) introduced the ward office system to enhance public service delivery at the ward level. Municipal Administration Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao inaugurated the system, emphasizing its aim of decentralization and citizen-centric governance. Under this new system, each of the 150 wards in GHMC will have a dedicated ward office led by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner. A team of 10 officials in each office will be responsible for meeting the service standards outlined in the citizens charter. The ward offices, headed by Assistant Municipal Commissioners, will oversee multiple departments such as road maintenance, sanitation, entomology, town planning, electricity, and water supply. This ensures efficient monitoring and resolution of public issues at the ward level. Future plans include incorporating officers from departments like health and police into the ward offices for comprehensive service delivery.
