In a significant announcement today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would install the historic 'Sengol' sceptre near the Lok Sabha Speaker's seat during the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28. Originally presented to Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947, the 'Sengol' serves as a powerful symbol of the transfer of power from the British to India. The term 'Sengol's significance came to light when Lord Mountbatten, the then Viceroy of British India, inquired about a symbolic representation of the transfer of power. To fulfill this request, Rajaji sought the assistance of a religious body in Tanjore district, Tamil Nadu. Chennai-based jewellers Vummidi Bangaru Chetty were entrusted with crafting the exquisite 'Sengol', a task they carried out with utmost care and precision. On August 14, 1947, a momentous occasion unfolded as three priests from the Tanjore religious body reverently carried the five-foot-long 'Sengol'. They presided over the proceedings with utmost reverence, symbolizing the embodiment
