Amaravati: The High Court has struck down the Government Order (G.O.) No.1 issued by the Andhra Pradesh government, delivering a significant blow to the state administration. This controversial G.O., introduced on January 2nd of this year, aimed to restrict public meetings and roadshows by political parties on public roads. However, a series of petitions challenging the G.O. were filed, and during the trial, the petitioners argued that the issuance of the G.O. went against Section 30 of the Police Act, with the intent to suppress the opposition's voice. CPI State Secretary K. Ramakrishna lodged a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court, alleging that the government's actions were intended to silence opposition parties and other political groups by prohibiting public meetings on roads.
