The blue checkmark is a coveted symbol of authenticity and validation for Twitter accounts, which is why this decision by the social media giant has come as a shock to many. It was previously announced by Twitter that they would be revamping their verification process, including requiring a monthly subscription fee for the blue badge, but it seems that some celebrities and their PR teams have failed to comply, resulting in the loss of their verified status.
