Visakhapatnam: In an effort to boost tourism in Andhra Pradesh, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has collaborated with Sunray Resorts to plant 200 15-year-old coconut trees at the offshore sandy beach area in Sagarnagar beach. The plantation drive by GVMC has resulted in trees growing to a decent size, making them an attraction point for tourists visiting the beach during the summer. GVMC Commissioner P Raja Babu has highlighted the importance of properly taking care of the trees, as they are typically at risk of dying immediately after being uprooted. To ensure their safety and growth after being planted in the sand, special techniques are being employed by workers. Aside from beautifying the area, the coconut trees also provide much-needed shade to passers-by and tourists visiting the beach during the day. The initiative is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's ongoing efforts to boost tourism and attract visitors to the state.
