Vijayawada: On Friday, Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, a former Supreme Court judge, was sworn in as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. The event was attended by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, leader of opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu, ministers, judges and top officials. After the swearing-in, the leaders and officials congratulated the new Governor. Justice Nazeer was appointed as the Governor by President of India Draupadi Murmu on February 12, succeeding Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, who was transferred to Chhattisgarh Raj Bhavan. Harichandan had assumed office as Governor in July 2019. Hailing from Karnataka, Justice Nazeer had previously served as a judge in the Karnataka High Court and was elevated to Supreme Court judge in 2017.
