The Central government has reaffirmed that Amaravati remains the designated capital of Andhra Pradesh, as established by the AP Bifurcation Act of 2014. The clarification came in response to a question raised by YCP Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy and was answered by Union Minister Nityananda Rai. According to the Union Home Ministry, an expert committee was formed under the provisions of Section 5 and 6 of the AP Bifurcation Act to study the feasibility of establishing a capital city. After a thorough analysis and consideration of the expert committee's report, Amaravati was notified as the capital and the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Act was introduced. However, in 2020 the Andhra Pradesh government withdrew the CRDA Act and proposed the concept of "Three Capitals," but these decisions were later overturned and the CRDA Act remains in effect.
