The Andhra Pradesh government has issued new directives and decided to enforce salary reductions for any employees who arrive late to work. The decision was made, according to the authorities, to weed out careless and tardy staff. The orders said that any employee arriving to work more than 10 minutes late will have their pay reduced. The new orders shocked the labour unions, who expressed their shock. The government had already started replacing the biometric system in all of the offices with a facial recognition mode of attendance, and now, salary reductions for latecomers merely meant upsetting the workers, the union leaders claimed. They said that some of their coworkers were being forced to work unscheduled hours. They declared that they intended to bring their concerns to the attention of the higher officials and urge them to revoke the decision.
