The two remaining contenders for the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom are Liz Truss and former finance minister Rishi Sunak. Former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak emphasised his position as the leading candidate for the Tory leadership. After receiving 105 votes, the fewest of the three candidates, former defence secretary Penny Mordaunt was eliminated. Ms. Truss received 113 votes, while Mr. Sunak received 137. The remaining two will hold hustings around the UK in an effort to sway the approximately 160,000 eligible Conservative Party members to cast postal ballots in their support. By September 5, the victor of that vote will succeed interim British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the new Tory leader and leader of the party.
