Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the president of Sri Lanka, was forced to leave his official residence by protesters who had infiltrated his residence and scaled security barriers to demand his resignation. Thousands of protestors stormed the president's official home in Colombo today, breaking through police barricades as the nation of 22 million people battled an unparalleled economic crisis. The demonstrators broke into the president's bedroom and consumed food that was kept in the kitchen. Some have swum in the swimming pole while others have napped on the bed. Rajapaksa was reportedly led to safety outside the official residence and transported to the army headquarters. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremmesinghe has called for an emergency meeting with political party leaders to discuss the alarming situation.
