Police Place YS Sharmila Under House Arrest in Vijayawada
A tense atmosphere prevailed outside the residence of Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief YS Sharmila in Vijayawada after she was placed under house arrest by the police. Authorities prevented YS Sharmila from leaving her home, leading to heightened tensions in the area.
YS Sharmila had planned to visit Uddandarayunipalem, the site where Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh in 2015. As she prepared for the visit, the police intervened, stating that her tour had not received official permission.
To obstruct her journey, police installed barricades on the road leading out of her residence. A verbal altercation ensued between YS Sharmila and the police personnel present. She expressed strong displeasure over the police’s actions, asserting, “I will definitely go to Uddandarayunipalem. The police have no right to stop me.”
Despite her objections, the police did not permit her to leave. As of now, a high-tension situation continues at her residence, with heavy police deployment in place.
