Guntur Court Grants Bail to Gorantla Madhav and Five Associates
In a case filed over allegations of assaulting an individual in police custody and also police personnel on duty, YSR Congress Party leader and former Member of Parliament Gorantla Madhav has received relief. Along with him, five of his associates were also granted conditional bail yesterday by a court in Guntur.
On the 10th of this month, Telugu Desam Party activist Chebrolu Kiran Kumar was taken into custody by the police in Guntur for questioning. At that time, allegations arose that Gorantla Madhav and five of his associates assaulted both Kiran Kumar and the escort police personnel present at the location. A case was subsequently registered at Nagarampalem Police Station. On the same day, the police apprehended Gorantla Madhav and his associates.
The following day, the police produced all six individuals before the court. Upon hearing the case, the magistrate ordered judicial remand, and all six were shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail. For further investigation, the police, with court permission, took Gorantla Madhav into two days' custody on the 23rd of this month. After the interrogation, he was returned to Rajahmundry Central Jail on the 24th.
Later, the police filed another petition seeking further custody of Gorantla Madhav. Simultaneously, lawyers representing Gorantla Madhav submitted a petition requesting bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court yesterday granted conditional bail to Gorantla Madhav and the other five accused. The court mandated that all of them must appear at the concerned police station every Saturday and sign the register. Upon submission of the required sureties, they are expected to be released from Rajahmundry Central Jail today.
