The World is Shocked: How the US Deported Brazilian Migrants in a Distressing Manner
As warned by the new U.S. President Donald Trump, the administration has begun enforcing strict measures against migrants. In a recent incident, dozens of Brazilian migrants were deported under reportedly distressing conditions. Allegations have surfaced that they were treated inhumanely, with complaints of denial of basic needs such as water, lack of air conditioning on the flight, and being restrained with handcuffs. The incident has drawn widespread outrage, with Brazil strongly condemning the treatment of its citizens and demanding an explanation from the U.S. government, calling the actions a violation of human rights.

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed anger over the incident, alleging that its citizens were subjected to degrading conditions during deportation. Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski stated that the migrants were freed from their handcuffs immediately upon arrival and expressed regret over the incident.

Victims of the deportation recounted harrowing experiences. Edgar da Silva Moura, a computer technician, revealed that he was detained in the U.S. for seven months, during which he endured appalling conditions. He said, “We weren’t even provided water, and they tied our hands and feet before boarding the flight.” Another deportee, Luis Antonio Rodrigues Santos, described difficulties in breathing due to the air conditioning being turned off during the flight and shared that they were not allowed to use the restroom.

The flight, carrying 88 Brazilian citizens, landed in Manaus, a northern city in Brazil. The sight of passengers disembarking with handcuffs shocked onlookers. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ordered the Air Force to immediately remove the restraints and assist the deportees respectfully to their destinations.

Donald Trump, during his election campaign, pledged to combat illegal immigration with severe measures. True to his word, he declared a "national emergency at the southern border" on his first day in office, deploying military personnel to the region. The deportation of the Brazilians is part of this broader enforcement. Recently, the U.S. also deported 26 migrants to Guatemala under similar circumstances.

Brazil has firmly criticized the actions, stating that the U.S.’s strict immigration policies are causing distress and anxiety among affected individuals and their families. The Brazilian government has officially lodged its protest, labeling the treatment unacceptable.
