GHMC Deputy Commissioner Caught by ACB While Accepting 2 Lakh Bribe
A Deputy Commissioner from the Rajendranagar Circle under the jurisdiction of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was apprehended by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh from a hotel owner.
According to ACB City Range Deputy Superintendent of Police Srinivas Reddy, the incident occurred following a recent inspection by Deputy Commissioner Ravikumar at a hotel within his jurisdiction. During the inspection, Ravikumar reportedly found the kitchen in an unhygienic condition and claimed that the hotel had violated certain regulations. He allegedly threatened to seize the hotel unless the owner paid a bribe of ₹5 lakh.
In response, the hotel owner filed a complaint with the ACB against Deputy Commissioner Ravikumar. Acting on the complaint, ACB officials advised the hotel owner to hand over ₹2 lakh to Ravikumar at the circle office. During the transaction, ACB officers who had been waiting in concealment caught Ravikumar red-handed while accepting the bribe.
An additional point of interest, according to the ACB DSP, is that when Ravikumar initially demanded the bribe, he allegedly suggested that a portion of the money be given to media personnel. ACB officers stated that it came to their attention that Ravikumar may have used the media as a pretext to demand a higher bribe amount.
The DSP also mentioned that an inquiry is underway to determine whether any media representatives were genuinely involved in the incident. Following searches conducted at Ravikumar’s residence, he was arrested and sent to judicial remand.
