IPL 2025: No Reserve Day for Qualifier-1—Here’s What Happens If It Rains

IPL 2025: No Reserve Day for Qualifier-1—Here’s What Happens If It Rains
The Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs are set to begin today. As part of this stage, the Qualifier-1 match is scheduled to take place in Mullanpur, where Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the top two teams in the points table, are set to face off. Both teams concluded the league stage with 19 points from 14 matches. However, Punjab Kings secured the top position owing to a superior net run rate.

The team that wins today’s Qualifier-1 will advance directly to the final. However, if the match is canceled due to rain, and given that there is no reserve day scheduled for Qualifier-1, the outcome will be determined based on IPL regulations.

According to IPL rules, if the Qualifier-1 match is washed out, the team that topped the league stage—in this case, Punjab Kings—will automatically qualify for the final. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will then play against the winner of the Eliminator match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The victor of that match will face Punjab Kings in the final.

Punjab Kings, who have reached the playoffs for the first time since 2014, are determined to win the title this season. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are also focused on finally securing the IPL trophy, which has eluded them so far.
