Novak Djokovic Reaches Rare Milestone with 100 Career Titles
Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has achieved a rare milestone by securing the 100th singles title of his career with a hard-fought victory at the Geneva Open. On Saturday, Djokovic defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the final with a score of 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2), clinching his landmark 100th career title.
Following the win, Novak Djokovic expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am happy to have achieved my 100th singles title here. I had to work very hard for it. Throughout the match, Hubert was closer to victory than I was. I don’t know how I managed to break his serve. Perhaps he broke himself when he was leading 4-3. He played exceptionally well. There’s no doubt that it was a tough fight.”
With this victory, Novak Djokovic has become only the third player in tennis history to win 100 career singles titles. Only Jimmy Connors, with 109 titles, and Roger Federer, with 103 titles, have achieved this distinction before him.
Djokovic had previously won his 99th title at the Paris Olympics. However, he lost his next two finals, which delayed his entry into the exclusive 100-title club. Having won his first title in 2006, Djokovic has now set a record as the first player in the Open Era to win titles in 20 different seasons.
The French Open is set to begin this weekend. So far, Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam titles and now has his sights set on a 25th. He will play his first match on Monday against American player Mackenzie McDonald.
