Priests Denounce Urvashi Rautela’s Claim About Temple in Her Name

Bollywood and Tollywood actress Urvashi Rautela, who enjoys widespread popularity across India, recently stirred controversy with her comments during a media interview. Her remarks have drawn sharp criticism from temple priests and religious leaders, particularly in northern India.

In the interview, Urvashi Rautela stated that there is a temple in North India named after her, and she expressed a desire for her fans in South India to build a temple for her as well. These statements have provoked strong reactions from Hindu priests, who allege that such remarks are misleading and disrespectful to religious sentiments.

Bhuvan Chandra Uniyal, a priest, acknowledged that a temple bearing the name "Urvashi" exists near Badrinath in a place called Bamni. However, he clarified that the temple is not associated with Urvashi Rautela in any way. “Her statements are misleading,” said Bhuvan Chandra Uniyal.

Amit, President of the Brahma Kapal Teerth Purohit Society, also condemned Urvashi Rautela’s statements, asserting that they are an affront to religious beliefs. He emphasized that the temple in Bamni is ancient and dedicated to the mythological figure Urvashi Devi, not the actress. “This is an insult to religious faith,” said Amit.

Residents of Badrinath, along with Hindu religious leaders and priests in the area, have expressed anger over Urvashi Rautela’s remarks. They maintained that the temple in question is not hers and that such statements are unacceptable. The priests have demanded that the government take action against the actress for her comments.

Amit Sati, another priest and a leader within the Brahma Kapal Teerth Purohit Society, strongly criticized the actress’s statements. He reiterated that the temple in Bamni is ancient and associated with the deity Urvashi, not any individual person. He alleged that her comments have hurt the religious sentiments of the local community.
