Sanju Samson Fined ₹24 Lakh for Slow Over Rate Against Gujarat

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has received a major setback from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following his team’s defeat to Gujarat Titans. The match, held last night, ended in a loss for Rajasthan by a margin of 58 runs. As a consequence of a slow over rate during the game, the BCCI imposed a fine of ₹24 lakh on Sanju Samson.
This marks the second time this season that the Rajasthan Royals have been penalised for a slow over rate. Previously, stand-in captain Riyan Parag was fined ₹12 lakh for the same violation during a match against Chennai Super Kings.
In the most recent match against Gujarat, the BCCI also penalised the remaining team members. Each player was fined either 25 percent of their match fee or ₹6 lakh, whichever is lesser.
Sanju Samson acknowledged that the team underperformed in all aspects during the match. He admitted, “We failed in both batting and bowling. We gave away 15 to 20 runs more than we should have while bowling.” He added that the team also fell short in their batting performance. Samson further stated, “Just when Shimron Hetmyer was increasing hopes of victory with his aggressive display of fours and sixes, I got out, which led to the team’s defeat.”
